A strong post war abstract painting by Robert Sadler, Bird with Figure has excellent scale and balance. Noted and numbered in the Sadlers estate index and in clean original condition with strong colours. This painting would equally fit either a modern living space or a farmhouse wall with good lighting. Interestingly, hung upside down this painting reveals a large butterfly wing shaped image.
Robert Sadler (1909–2001), a British artist, transitioned from a Royal Air Force career to painting in 1955. Influenced by Abstract Expressionism, École de Paris Tachisme, and British contemporaries like Peter Lanyon, his works abstracted landscapes and figures. Sadler exhibited widely, blending sculpted textures and vibrant tones, leaving a legacy of over 2,000 paintings.
