A traditional Victorian oil painting by Jenkins of the beautiful harbour at Clovelly, North Devon, England. The coastal Lug Sailboat with deep red sails is delightful, as are the lime washed walls of the harbour building with it’s smoky chimney (now the Red Lion Hotel). Jenkins is an underrated painter of his time, this oil on canvas of Clovelly is nicely balanced and detailed in the harbour walls and buildings and it has a translucent feel to the sea in different lights.
C. 1880/1890, we would love this painting to find a new keeper with a love of the West Country.
Artist: George Henry Jenkins (1838-1914)
